Located just outside of Smoky Mountains National Park and only a few minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Maggie Valley, NC is one of those off-the-beaten-path, hidden gem towns.
It’s also home to a one-of-a-kind museum that houses over 300 rare and vintage motorcycles, plus a selection of unique classic cars and racecars.

Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum
Back in November, we made the two-hour drive from Knoxville to visit the museum. My husband, John, is a major motorcycle afficionado and currently owns an Indian FTR 1200. But he recently sold a Harley Bagger, so we aren’t loyal to one brand over the other. I share this because the museum displays a large number of both Harley and Indian motorcycles, along with various other makes.

Personally, I appreciate motorcycles purely as a passenger, and I won’t pretend to know anything about them. But despite my lack of knowledge or a motorcycle license, I enjoyed this museum! We spent about an hour wandering through various collections on two levels.

It’s worth noting that the visual displays are well-designed and easy to navigate at your own pace. And the signage provided just enough information without feeling overwhelming.

Do prepare yourself for a strong gasoline smell when you first enter the building. It gave me a headache, which thankfully subsided within a few minutes as we walked around and my nose adjusted.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Wheels Through Time for a unique daytime excursion from the Smokies or nearby Blue Ridge Parkway—especially if you love motorcycles and old cars, or are in need of an indoor activity.
