A visit to the southern coast of Portugal is not complete without a boat tour. When you see the cliffs and coves, you’ll understand.
Not only does a boat ride offer a unique view of the coastline, but it also allows you to enter several of the countless caves along the cliffs.
But which tour is the best one?
The options might feel endlessly overwhelming. At least, they were for us, so we asked a few locals who pointed us to Carvoeiro Tours. They also recommended booking a tour at low tide. So that’s what we did. And we loved it!
Carvoeiro Tours Benagil Cave Tour
We spent over an hour on the water with a boat captain and an expert guide. In that time, we entered over a dozen caves and cruised all the way to Marinha Beach and back. We passed a few other beaches, including Centeanes Beach, just steps away from our apartment rental.

Our guide also stopped and took photos of us in a few of the caves, using our own cell phones. And our captain was a pro. He never bumped a single cave wall or came too close to any other boats, even with the tight turnarounds and unexpected waves. We also learned about the local culture and the best local-approved spots along the coast near Carvoeiro.

Honestly, I’m shocked it wasn’t more expensive. For the number of caves we experienced, this tour was well worth the cost.
